2018 is a prestigious year for Azelis UK Personal Care, as it celebrates 50 years of service to the personal care industry in the UK and Ireland. For 50 years, Azelis has been working with first class raw material manufacturers at the cutting edge of application innovation, for fragrance and cosmetic ingredients. Using a combination of unique raw materials and exclusive in-house formulations, Azelis will display a series of signature product formulations highlighting trends from the past, present and future with influences from the 1950’s to the 1980’s, today’s trends and beyond at SCS Formulate. Formulations include a classic 1950’s cold cream made with a modern formulation, a “back to the 80’s” hair gel through to the latest light protection formulations and a K-Beauty-inspired make up fixing spray.
What is now Azelis UK Personal Care was founded by Stanley Black in 1968 under the name S. Black (Import & Export) Ltd., as a distributor of innovative ingredients. By 1997, the Hertford facility of Azelis UK included a state-of-the-art personal care laboratory, which was a first in the UK. This allowed the company to develop formulations to demonstrate new materials and technologies as they came on the market and also to work closely with customers on bespoke development projects and problem solving exercises. S. Black became part of the Azelis group in 2007 and changed its name to reflect this in 2011, as Azelis became one brand across Europe, with a shared set of values. As the Azelis group expands this brings new opportunities for the team at Azelis UK to interact with and learn from their colleagues and laboratories worldwide. This allows the Azelis team to bring new and interesting materials, as well as trends, to their home market.
Azelis has fifteen personal care laboratories located around the globe, including the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Japan, the US and India, each with specific areas of expertise. The laboratory in the UK, for example, has expertise in colour cosmetics, while the laboratory in Germany is highly active in the development of emulsion technologies. The teams collaborate to gain new insights and identify trends for future formulations and share them with customers and principals. Azelis’ ability to test products, attain approvals and supply to just-in-time delivery schedules makes it the chosen partner for many leading brands.
